Thoughts on Mosallam, Roman Village, and Going ‘Deep’

Hey, Brian Mosallam, you’re about to be inducted into the Dearborn Sports Hall of Fame. Now, what are you going to do?

The traditional correct answer is, “I’m going to Disney World.”

Likely not for Brian, though with his first baby on the way. Seriously, though, congratulations to Brian Mosallam, a former all-State and all-American football player from Fordson High School (Class of 1992).

Mosallam, along with two others, will be inducted into the Hall at the 57th annual Dearborn Sports Recreation Hall of Fame banquet on Monday, March 23 at 6:30 p.m. For tickets or more information: 313-943-2350. Mosallam still shows up every Fall football Friday night, home or away, to root on the Tractors. He’s also given generously to support the program’s new weight room and equipment. To say Brian loves Fordson is the biggest understatement.

What are the odds he shows up March 23rd wearing his old varsity jacket?

With all the bad economic news, finally some good news from our friends at Roman Village. The Rugieros are celebrating their 45th anniversary by offering discounts on their fabulous pizza and pastas. Get this: buy any pasta dish, and get a second one of equal value for only 45 cents! Same goes for their mouth watering pizzas: Buy one, get the second for 45 cents. Dine-in only.

Spaghetti carbonara, ossobucco, gnocchi, pizza, and lasagna. Nobody’s done it better since Papa Regiero (who left us last year) opened up Roman Village 45 years ago. I still remember spending many a New Year’s Eve there with my family, hording down pizza and gallons of soda, while trying to sneak in a game of Pac-Man between slices. Those were the days, and apparently ARE the days again (minus the Pac-Man machine), but only until April 17 can you take advantage of their anniversary specials.

Finally, starting this month, say “hi” to our newest edition to Your Community Voice: Said Deep. No one (and I say this with great confidence) has their finger on the pulse of the community like Said, a lifelong resident. But you don’t have to take my word for it, just head to his website: www.deepsaidwhat.com. Read some of his articles, and you’ll be saying, ‘oooohhhhhhhh… I never knew that’. He calls himself Said Deep, but I like to refer to him as ‘Early Edition’ because of the way he seems to mysteriously receive information before it’s published in the local papers.

To expect the unexpected, just turn the pages.

And Enjoy.
